Summer PD Certificated Members: Register now for the C.A.R.E. Course!!
MSEA and ACEA are pleased to bring the Culture, Abilities, Resilience and Effort (C.A.R.E.) Workshop series to our members in Western Maryland this summer. Based on the NEA CARE Curriculum and broken down into three separate workshops, CARE strategies prepare educators to implement research-based approaches that maximize the value that diverse groups of students bring with them to school. Part 1 focuses on student and community culture and how to recognize the role culture plays in learning. Part 2 deals with the maximizing the broad range of student abilities and fostering student resilience and Part 3 focuses on the role of effort in learning and how educators can use a systems-based approach to implementing a culturally competent learning environment. Completion of each part of the workshop series makes certificated participants eligible to apply for one MSDE Continuing Professional Development credit applicable to re-certification requirements.

Summer PD Non-Certificated: Trauma, SEL and De-escalation for ESP
MSEA and ACEA are pleased to offer our ESP members in Western Maryland the opportunity to receive free training in Trauma Informed and Social-Emotional Learning approaches to verbal behavior interventions and de-escalation. Now more than ever, the students that our ESP members work with are coming with behaviors that are deeply rooted in traumatic events and stress-related triggers that they have a very hard time processing. This one and a half hour training focuses on where those behaviors come from, how to identify the triggers early (or before they even happen) and how to use verbal strategies to intervene and de-escalate those behaviors. Because of how closely we work with students, the course is tailored to the work ESP members do specifically. From bus drivers to secretaries to paras and IAs, we will learn practical interventions that you can apply next day. Light refreshments will be served.
Registration is first come first served and will be capped at 30 registrants per session.
