MSEA BOOK DONATIONS Throughout the Read Across America month of March, MSEA celebrated and encouraged a lifelong love of reading by donating new books to all 300 community schools in Maryland, including four here in Allegany County.
Each community school received a copy of Piecing Me Together by Renee Watson. This story of a determined, resilient Black high school student that has won the Newbery Honor and Coretta Scott King Author Honor and is a New York Times bestseller. In addition, all elementary community schools received Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut by Derrick Barnes. This illustrated story of how a trip to the barbershop changes a boy’s view of the world received the Newbery Honor, Caldecott Honor, Coretta Scott King Author Honor, Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor, and the 2018 Kirkus Prize for Young Readers. ACEA would also like to thank the administration and staff of ACPS for their continued support of this cause.
